Google Visualizations with Energy Data

After much discussing we decided that Google Visualizations would be the best way to develop an application that can be easily used and maintained by the folks at http://hawaiienergy.com/. The idea is to create 3 or 4 applications within a tabbed environment on a section of their page. This will allow visitors to interact with the data that HEEP intends to make transparent. Our applications have the following design specs:

Stoplight Style Representation for Current Power Status
  • Red, yellow, and green to represent high, moderate, and low demand times
  • Use their socket icon(logo) to represent the colors.
Oil Price Variance over Time
  • Create Google visualization to represent oil prices as stacks of barrels
  • Information updated daily

HEEP Report Card
  • Report HEEP's performance Displays cost vs. power savings Metrics updated weekly
Cooling degree days
  • Display relationship between cooling degree days and power usage
  • One cooling degree day per degree above 65 degrees

Our first task is to learn the visualization API and then show HEEP a demo.

I will post the demo here when it is complete.
